URGENT ACTION- Possible new Humanitarian Catastrophe in Camp Ashraf!

The Iranian regime has set the suppression of Ashraf residents in Iraq as a precondition to its support for al-Maliki in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Iraq.

In a move, which according to Ambassador Jeffrey Feltman, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs,

"could lead to bloodshed," the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, announced
plans for the "transfer of Camp Ashraf residents to Nuqrat al-Salman" south of
Iraq as a "step towards expelling them (from Iraq)."

This move on behalf of the Iranian regime is due to 3 major factors:

- Effects of the radicalized uprising of Iranian people and Iranian students in Iran and strong condemnations of the UN for regim's blatant violations of basic Humanitarian Law in brutal suppression in Iran;

-Spanish court’s acceptance of a complaint by families of Ashraf residents against Iraqi authorities for their crimes against humanity and its ruling that the residents are Protected Persons under the Fourth Geneva Conventions;

- Recent revelations by the Iranian Resistance on December 8 that the source of criminal and terrorist bombings in Baghdad was the regime in Iran;The Iranian regime which is worried about the possible change of political balance against its interest due to the upcoming parliamentary elections in Iraq has made the suppression of Ashraf residents a precondition to its support for Maliki.


So far hundreds of MEPs , humanitarian Organizations including the UNHCR, Red Cross, Amnesty International , OMCT ,FIDH ..have strongly condemns this unlawful decision which blatantly violates international humanitarian law and runs counter to the Iraqi Government's written assurances to the United States about upholding the human rights of Ashraf residentsWe call on the U.S government and its forces present in Iraq as well as the Secretary General of the United Nations, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Special Envoy of the Secretary General for Iraq and all relevant international organizations to oppose any forcible displacement of Ashraf residents and prevent another humanitarian catastrophe from taking place against the unarmed and defenseless people

WE MUST ask UNAMI and the US Ambassador to Iraq to take a more comprehensible and Urgent action to ensure that the last "Crimes" committed by the Maliki representatives at the behest of Tehran , NOT be committed this time

Please do as you can one of the following:
1- write uregent letters to the follwing Officials who know about the situation but have for some reason refrained from acting effectivelyand giving time to the Maliki government to please his counterparts in Tehran.

I am an Iranian writing to you. I would like to draw your esteemed attention to an urgent humanitarian issue and request your help.
As you may know, Iranian regime’s suppression and terrorism is not limited to the boundaries of Iran. Since June 12 that the uprising started in my homeland, the Iranian regime has escalated its brutal pressures and suppression against 3400 Iranian dissidents who are residing in Camp Ashraf in Iraq. On 28 & 29 July 2009 and at the behest of the Iranian regime, Iraqi army and police attacked brutally the unarmed, defenseless residents of Camp Ashraf which left 11 camp residents killed and 500 injured, and 36 residents were forcefully taken away from the camp.

In a move, which according to Ambassador Jeffrey Feltman, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, "could lead to bloodshed," the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, announced plans for the "transfer of Camp Ashraf residents to Nuqrat al-Salman" south of Iraq as a "step towards expelling them (from Iraq)."

I request that you internve and ask the U.S government and its forces present in Iraq as well as the Secretary General of the United Nations, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Special Envoy of the Secretary General for Iraq and all relevant international organizations to oppose any forcible displacement of Ashraf residents and prevent another humanitarian catastrophe from taking place against the unarmed and defenseless people.

Second suggested example of letter :

Dear Secretary General,

I am deeply disturbed that following unprovoked attacks by Iraqi army and police against unarmed, defenseless residents of Ashraf Camp in Iraq on 28 & 29 July 2009 which left 11 residents killed, more than 500 wounded, 36 others abducted and taken forcefully from the camp and are currently in a very dire situation.

At the moment and after International outcry, yet, we have heard once again that in a move, which according to Ambassador Jeffrey Feltman, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, "could lead to bloodshed," the Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, announced plans for the "transfer of Camp Ashraf residents to Nuqrat al-Salman" south of Iraq as a "step towards expelling them (from Iraq)."

I am gravely concerned at the conditions of the Ashraf residents and hold the government of Iraq responsible should anything happen to those people.

I request that you intervene in this humanitarian issue and urge the Iraqi government to immediately realize the basic Rights of the residetns under the IL, and IHL as agreed under the UN charter on Human Rights.
